Cosentino Asia expands its climate action and sustainability initiatives

Cosentino continues its partnership with social enterprise, Seastainable Co., to raise awareness on environmental consciousness and practical sustainability

To mark the World Cleanup Day traditionally held in September annually around the world, Cosentino Asia has once again partnered social enterprise, Seastainable Co., to spread awareness on environmental consciousness and call the community to join the movement for a clean planet through a series of activities and events.

Earlier this month, the Cosentino Singapore family did their bit and went along the shoreline of East Coast Park for a coastal cleanup to remove and collect trash that polluted the beach, making the beach cleaner and our ocean healthier.

The series ended with an event organised by Seastainable Co., World Cleanup Day Community Gathering, held at Cosentino City Singapore last Friday evening. It was a privilege to have the EU Ambassador to Singapore, H.E. Iwono Piorko, grace the event as the Guest-of-Honour.

The event united the local and international community of youth volunteers, leaders and organisations who have continued to be beacons of hope, leading and inspiring action in support of our ocean and environment through their commitment and actions. The gathering included a panel discussion moderated by Adeline Ang from Coastal Natives, tackling the pressing issue of littering titled ‘Creating Impact through Unlittering’, which saw community leaders in sustainability sharing their voices – H.E. Iwona Piorko, Chun Hui Suen (Director, Kindred Spirit) and Meaghan See (Director of Partnerships, Head of Events and Engagements, Eco-Business).

We are glad to find a committed partner in Cosentino who has become a key partner in realising this community gathering. We’re amazed at the good work the team is doing in the areas of conservation and sustainability; their lead is exemplary for other organisations to follow,” shares Samantha Thian, Founder of Seastainable Co.

During the event, the community also witnessed the unveiling of the Stridy mobile app, a non-profit app to log individual litter cleanup. It connects the user to the global Stridy community where he/she will be able to visualise the positive impact being made as a community all over the world.

This local initiative is aligned with Cosentino’s global commitment to sustainability by making constant progress on the road to excellence and assume the highest standards of respect and responsibility for the environment. This is achieved by adopting a comprehensive and cross-cutting approach to sustainability based in ESG criteria and its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN 2030 Agenda.

As a global leader in the surfaces industry, Cosentino has assumed its own particular role by encouraging innovation and continuous improvement to move towards a circular economy model that promotes the efficient use of resources, and the minimisation and recovery of waste. We are the only company in our sector with its own waste treatment and recovery plant and we use 100% certified renewable energy to fuel our Industrial Park in Cantoria, Almeria, Spain.

City Singapore manager, Celine See, is optimistic about raising awareness on the importance of protecting our environment step by step. She says, “What would happen if everyone picked up at least one piece of litter? If everyone does her bit, the results can be astounding.”

“It is so heart-warming to see so many youths who are so enthusiastic in caring for the Earth. Their dedication, effort and time in championing the green movement is inspiring,” she adds about the event turnout.
