A company kitchen full of character

This US company’s aim was to create unique and timeless common and kitchen areas at its North Carolina headquarters. Both the client and the architecture studio in charge of the project, Gensler, were looking for a material that would be aesthetically powerful and at the same time stand the test of time, bearing in mind that these are areas of heavy traffic and daily use.

Both fell in love with Dekton Rem when they saw a sample of it. The architects knew right away that it was the perfect material, but it lacked something to add sophistication. So instead of using Rem in a matt finish, they came up with the idea of a polished finish. Thus Lincoln was born – a new and original colour designed specifically for this project. This was made possible thanks to the features of Dekton iD, a technology that allows for unlimited customisation of Dekton slabs and the creation of unique textures, colours and patterns.

Inspired by marble

This new colour, which enhances Rem’s characteristic brown and grey vein pattern with golden hints, has been used in various areas of the kitchen, as well as in rest areas. More specifically, the countertops, island and bar feature these textures inspired by the elegant white marble, reminiscent of natural Calacatta Lincoln itself. Its shiny, polished finish emphasises its sleek, modern design that blends perfectly with the dark cabinets and stainless steel appliances. As a result, the space gives a sense of calm and timelessness to the common areas of these offices.

Grand Paris Express

By 2021, the Paris metropolitan area will have almost 12.5 million inhabitants. It is by far the largest urban area in the European Union and is expected to continue to grow in the coming years. Whilst there are a number of urban challenges, inter-city transport around Paris is undoubtedly one of the most important.

In response to this growth, the French authorities have come up with an ambitious project, the Grand Paris Express (GPE), a public transport network consisting of 4 cutting-edge driverless metro lines. Over the next 15 years, a total of 200 km of new track between 64 stations will be built.

One of the key phases of a project of this scale is the construction of ‘pilot’ stations that will serve as a guide for the entire project. It was precisely in one of these stations, ‘La Fabrique du Metro’, where GPE managers turned to Dekton to test the possibilities of the material as well as the capacity of the Cosentino team to provide advice throughout the project.

Ultra-compact surface to withstand heavy traffic

The stations of the Grand Paris Express will soon be used by tens of thousands of passengers every day. As a result, this type of public infrastructure is subject to very heavy wear for which not all floors are suitable. The ultra-compact Dekton material is specially designed for these challenges, as it is highly resistant to impact and scratches.

Furthermore, as a non-porous material, Dekton is easy to maintain, whether it is dirt and grime from daily traffic, or more aggressive stains such as graffiti. The Cosentino surface keeps its uniform colour even when exposed to abrasive elements that would damage other materials.

It is no wonder that these physical-mechanical properties, together with its limitless cutting possibilities, have captivated GPE's managers. But there is more to it than that.

Dekton iD, a blank canvas

Grand Paris Express is set to be a unique infrastructure in the world, featuring innovations in many areas of engineering and civil transport: from its trains operated automatically by means of algorithms and AI, to the use of materials specifically designed for the project, such as the Dekton surface customised with the Dekton iD service.

Dekton iD is a blank canvas, a customisation service that allows the architect or designer to choose from the thickness of the material to its cut, texture, finish and colour. And colour was precisely the key element in the search for distinction: there is room for many styles and architectural elements in 64 metro stations, so it was essential to find a neutral colour with character that would not clash with the different environments; this is how ‘Paris’, the customised colour for the GPE, was born.

Sustainability is no longer optional

More than a trend, the use of sustainable materials has become a requirement for any public works project. That is why Dekton, a carbon neutral product made from 99% recycled water and 100% clean energy, was perfect for this project.

After the tests at ‘La Fabrique du Metro’, the Grand Paris Express team know that they can count on Dekton not only for flooring, but also for other applications such as stairs, wall cladding or even station façades, an application that has made Dekton a benchmark in the market.

A unique and sustainable project

Located in the heart of Riga, Origo shopping centre has recently been transformed into a hub of intense economic and social activity.

The building has been extended with six new floors with offices, restaurants and an underground car park. Cosentino ultra compact surface, Dekton, has been used for the flooring and stairs. The key reasons for choosing Dekton have included its BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) high score, and its great resistance to the high pedestrian traffic.

Thanks to Cosentino’s Dekton iD service, it has been possible to create a bespoke “clock” design which has been used on floors, creating an avant-garde space.

Dekton iD, limitless designs

The main visual attraction of the new facilities lies in the clock embedded in the flooring of one of its central squares. Customized pieces fitted together like a puzzle and creating a high-impact visual sensation from Sirius and Danae colours.

Dekton iD service includes personalised advice from Cosentino's R&D team together with the architectural studio, with the aim of customizing Dekton slabs to create exclusive colours, unique patterns, original textures and finishes.

A flooring that complies with BREEAM certification.

The extension of the shopping centre also had an ambitious goal: to achieve a high BREEAM rating. Dekton has obtained the Environmental Product Declaration. This makes it easy for a project to be in compliance with the high sustainability requirements imposed by the legislation.

Dekton iD service, together with the high performance of its ultra-compact surface, have turned the Origo shopping centre into an exclusive space designed to last.

Facade, flooring, elevators, interiors, and more...a dream brought to life by over 28,000 m2 of Dekton.

Located in the centre of Tel Aviv at the junction of two shopping streets, the ToHa building reaches 29 stories high. Its unique, faceted profile, inspired by the geometry of an iceberg, was designed by Ron Arad together with Avner Yashar’s local team to house an office complex that includes a public garden, viewing point and restaurant.

Innovative and functional architecture, both inside and out

From a functional perspective, this ambitious project turns the traditional layout of an office block on its head, as it located the facilities on the ground floor to free up space at the top. This way, the upper levels can be dedicated to leisure and the offices sit from the seventh floor up, optimizing access to natural light and stunning views.

The technical foundations are clad using a unique ventilated façade system that alternates the orientation of intersecting Dekton® panels. This application allows for the passage of air between the large-format (320 x 70 cm) plates and creates a uniform frontage that gives texture and depth to the elevation. Cosentino also offers the opportunity to custom-make a personalized palette of six colors, based on the Strato model, that create a progressive color gradation from the lower part upwards.

Interior and exterior: A balance of light and visual continuity

Inside, a huge 30-meter atrium acts as a vestibule and meeting point. The offices face outwards, through a glass façade, and inwards towards the central patio lit by a large light well.

Finishes have been carefully chosen to create a comfortable workplace and coherent corporate image. The possibility to produce large-format Dekton pieces for floors, walls, and ceilings minimizes jointing and maximizes visual continuity.
