Cosentino at the Dubai Design Week 2021

The most prominent initiative is ‘Context Reflections’; a research-based installation focused on natural light, materiality and sustainability built using Cosentino’s carbon neutral collection Silestone® Sunlit Days.
Also last Tuesday took place the “Design Day”, one of the most relevant events on the Spanish Pavilion Agenda of Expo Dubai 2020, that was jointly organized by Cosentino, Roca and Andreu World.

Cosentino Group, the global leader company in the production and distribution of innovative surfaces for architecture and design, is again protagonist of a new Dubai Design Week edition through different actions. The most relevant is the one carried out by Cosentino and award-winning Dubai and London based design practice ANARCHITECT. Both jointly unveiled ‘Context Reflections’, a slow-tech public installation at the heart of Dubai Design District (d3) as part of Design Week from 8-13 November 2021.

Built using Sunlit Days, the first-ever carbon neutral surfaces collection from Silestone® by Cosentino, the permeable installation invites visitors to enter a darkened chamber to pause and discover the intriguing play of penetrated light created via a naturally occurring optical phenomenon. The self-operating, analogue installation draws inspiration from the principles of ‘Camera Obscura’ of why we see what we see. In a panel discussion moderated by regional design expert Rue Kothari during the launch event at Cosentino City Dubai on 7th November, the ANARCHITECT Design Team and Cosentino’s Middle East Marketing Manager Miriam Llano revealed several facets of the installation.

Elaborating on the concept, Founder and Director of ANARCHITECT Jonathan Ashmore commented, "Context Reflections continues ANARCHITECT's ongoing research into the relationship of natural light, materials, and the importance of context in all architecture and interior spaces we engage in. Given the diverse and unique international settings the Practice works in, the installation concept was developed by our Team for Cosentino to highlight the consistent importance of light and materiality in our work; as well as raise our sustainable collective consciousness.”

The presence of Cosentino is also completed with the participation in “Interior Makers”, the Spanish Space arranged by the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX) and its platform “Interiors From Spain” at Downtown Design Fair. This space, which shows several Cosentino product samples and presents stands of other Spanish design firms, was officially opened with a breakfast held at Cosentino City Dubai. The Ambassador of Spain in United Arab Emirates (UAE), Íñigo de Palacio, attended the event.

Precisely, the Cosentino Dubai City is being the main stage of other activities and conferences linked to Dubai Design Week. Thus, last Monday 8th November took place the session “The World is our place” organized in collaboration with Actiu presenting a panel of professionals included Clara Voce (Pinnacle Interiors); Carina Lima (Swiss Bureau Interior Design-SBID); Ramón Esteve and Lena Marcuccili (Love that Design Studio) as moderator.

The events programme this week will be completed with an Executive Breakfast with Cristina Mateo, Dean at IE School of Architecture and Design and two interesting talks about Prison Cell Bed Design by Rock Galpin Studio and Dutch Design with Urban Nest.

Finally, last Tuesday in the Spanish Pavilion of Expo Dubai 2020 was celebrated the “Design Day”.
