Further proving their commitment to innovation and sustainability, Cosentino Group has announced the start of construction of one of the largest photovoltaic self-consumption plants in Europe. The company has commissioned the plant to be built within the existing industrial park located in Almeria, Spain, with construction scheduled for the first half of 2022.

Cosentino commissioned the project to Eiffage Energia, part of Group Eiffage, a European-leading business in the construction, civil engineering, renewable energy and electrical infrastructures industry. “This company will be responsible for the placement of almost 37,000 solar panels, each one with 540Wp as a fixed structure, on a total land area of more than 40 hectares within our industrial park,” commented Estela Álvarez, internal project manager for Cosentino.

The new plant will establish a new renewable electrical management model for Cosentino – an investment of more than $14.7 Million CAD (€ 10 million). The platform will have more than 20-megawatt peak (MWp) capacity, generating approximately 34,000 MWh per year. It will represent roughly 25 percent of Cosentino’s annual electrical consumption. Since 2015, all the electricity needs in Cosentino’s industrial park in Almeria have been covered through renewable energy sources with a certified origin for both products and services. This additional step towards further energy-saving solidifies the company’s commitment to environmental impact and sustainability.

“Just as Cosentino has been a pioneer at the level of internationalization for product innovation, with this project, we want to innovate again and establish a new management electrical model. This facility is part of our investment in sustainability, intending to guarantee the future competitiveness of the company, both due to our own production of renewable energy, as well as the stability of the energy cost,” affirmed Antonio Urdiales, Sustainability Director for Cosentino Group.

The project, outlined in Cosentino’s 2030-2050 decarbonization strategy, will reduce the company’s carbon footprint and include a biodiversity recovery initiative with 15 hectares annexed to the solar platform dedicated to the planting of flora and autochthonous species.
