Cosentino Design Challenge 16 now open to Canadian students

Cosentino has officially announced the launch of the 16th edition of the international Cosentino Design Challenge (CDC). This year’s competition has two themes that architecture and design students from all over the world will need to research to create and develop inspiring projects.

The architecture brief asks students to focus on “The fifth façade: a reflection on the roof”, integrating energy use with liveability, sustainability, and design into the final project. The design brief theme is “Re-thinking the creative workspace at home”, a timely challenge that asks students to develop innovative designs intended for those who work remotely.

“It is incredibly important for us at Cosentino to support the A&D industry’s future designers and architects,” said Philip Eeles, Regional Director for Cosentino Canada. “It’s the perfect opportunity for Canadian students to embrace a meaningful and timely challenge and potentially gain international recognition. We look forward to seeing projects from Canadian post-secondary institutions that offer architecture and design programs.”

The CDC jury will be looking for proposals focusing on environmental friendliness and sustainability, conceptual and technical quality, creativity, and innovation. In both categories, the participants will have complete freedom in developing their final project, which must include a product manufactured by Cosentino, including Silestone® natural quartz surface, Dekton® ultracompact surface and Sensa® protected granite surface.

Students have until June 1, 2022, to submit their projects in digital format via the competition website. The jury’s decision which will consist of a professor from each collaborating school, an internationally renowned architect or designer and a Cosentino representative. The jury will also be announced in June. There are three first prizes for each category of €1,000 each (approximately $1,400 CAD) and three runners-up.

Cosentino Design Challenge is a corporate social responsibility initiative in line with Cosentino’s commitment to the talent and creativity of future professionals from both disciplines closely related to the company’s business. CDC is a unique opportunity that connects students with innovative materials from a leading company in its sector. The past collaboration of 31 international schools and universities demonstrates the competition’s prestige.
