Reflecting on design trends that remained at the forefront of Canadian design this year, we’ve put together notable trends to help inspire creativity for your next project.

Nature-inspired design

Bringing the outdoors indoors, with earthy tones and organic materials, has made its way into every room of the home. Reeded cabinetry, cozy fabrics and natural textures such as rattan help support this woodsy-chic aesthetic. Green, Green, and more Green

Paint companies have announced their ‘colour-of-the-year’ and this year, they all seem to agree on palettes inspired by the outdoors. Put Benjamin Moore’s October Mist,  Sherwin William’s Evergreen Fog, Behr’s Breezeway, and Glidden’s Guacamole in a row, and you have a spectrum that evokes relaxation, calmness and balance. Prior to the paint companies announcement, Silestone launched the Sunlit Days Collection featuring the colour Posidonia Green that is both on-trend and timeless.

Technology continues trend when it comes to home design. Kohler does an exceptional job by seamlessly integrating technology into the bathroom. Matte Black is the new Black

Matte black finish has taken the design world by storm with its contemporary, timeless style. From door handles to lighting sconces, the colour helps to create a modern design element for any space. Black is a classic colour that will never go out of style. Adding in the matte finish elements with door hardware, plumbing fixtures, and lighting adds an element of sophistication integrating beautifully with natural inspired stone.

The Four-Season Kitchen

Canadians love the outdoors so much that outdoor kitchens continue to trend in 2021. Having to stay close to home, many homeowners re-evaluated their living environments and created multipurpose spaces with maximum function. Outdoor kitchens in the backyard created opportunities for another gathering area that be used all year round. Responsible Design

Homeowners are becoming more eco-friendly and environmentally conscious, choosing products and brands with meaningful sustainability initiatives. Cosentino is setting a precedent in the surface industry with the development of the exclusive HybriQ technology for Silestone surfaces. At the production level, HybriQ technology includes Cosentino’s environmental milestones, such as the use of 99 percent reused water from production processes and 100 per cent renewable electric energy, while also incorporating new improvements and more advanced systems in sustainable management and the circular economy in its factories. In terms of composition, HybriQ uses a new hybrid formulation of mineral raw materials with equal or better performance than quartz, synthetic minerals, and materials of a recycled origin. This makes it possible to reduce the use of crystalline silica in the composition of Silestone by 50 percent, achieving a reduction of up to 90 percent in some colours.
