Regina Sturrock Design creates a modern classic gem featuring Silestone

An exclusive interview with Regina Sturrock for a behind-the-scenes look at her latest project featuring Silestone Eternal Serena in the blue and white master bath for this new build.

Breathe in the essence of tailored luxury with this new residence by Regina Sturrock Design Inc., a Canada-based interior design firm specializing in the luxury home market.

The master bathroom is a space for relaxation and wellbeing, featuring Silestone Eternal Serena on the vanity top, shower bench, jambs, and niche. This subtle gray shade with fine white veining throughout is the perfect complement to the space’s classic blue and white palette.

We sat down with Regina Sturrock to get a first-hand look into this amazing project.

Regina, please give us an inside look at this stunning project.

This is a custom new build residence situated along the highly sought-after lakeshore in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. We designed it for an overseas client whose intent it was to sell the home once completed. As an investment property, the directive given was to ensure a broad appeal both aesthetically and functionally and to maximize light and sight lines to the lake. It’s a modern classic gem that defines beauty through clean-lined and sophisticated detailing, honest materials, and a good dose of dramatic panache. Deep walnut-framed openings within gallery white walls are part of the simple and impactful definitions that share the same clarity with its crisp white and black façade. The message is tailored luxury, relatable, and timeless.

The residence’s primary bathroom is stunning. What was the inspiration behind the space?

The sparkling lake waters were certainly the muse for this primary ensuite as was the idea of connecting with the home’s geometric gardens of large floating stones, tailored boxwoods, and rows of lavender. Overall, the room’s simplicity and its classic blue and white palette exudes a calm luxury as well as explicitness in contrast and geometry that instantly spells drama.  We see form, color, and pattern in full intensity with no distractions.

How did Silestone Eterna Serena fulfill your creative vision?

The soft gray quartz is a lovely link to the refined blue and white palette. In form, it’s an integral part of the millwork’s sculptural appeal with its thick edge profile.  On the standpoint of performance, we sought out materials that would not only be beautiful but would be easy to maintain. Given that this was a new build to be put on the market, high performance materials and sustainability were most definitely part of the features list.

What is your favorite element in this bathroom?

The double vanity. It’s the hinge to the scheme providing high contrast and geometry.  Despite that it’s a large piece that runs from wall to wall, the floating unit breathes spaciousness, particularly through its horizontal line and integrated modern lighting within large mirrors. Overall, it has a certain levity in both form and color. The sapphire blue finish is intense, and it plays a dominant role in defining the design elements. A bold detail of the same finish with a marine grade varnish for added durability are the bands that pierce the countertop and continue to divide the mirror. It's a unique statement that plays with the contours.

What role does surfacing play in the overall design?

Surfaces need to look beautiful and they need to perform. They often serve as a focal point. Texture, pattern or even pure simplicity can be essential contributions to the overall design.  In most cases, they are a big part of the real estate, so they must do their part to fit ‘timelessly’ into the envelope. Surfacing must also perform, maintain its appearance through heavy use, and contribute to a healthy home.  We look for all these components when specifying surfaces.
